This Brisbane singer-songwriter has come with an immaculately produced, pleasingly divers selection of acoustic-based tunes. Opening track Riddler is strong acoustic-rock with subtle Middle Eastern interludes, Wild Willow has the stark intimacy of pink Monn-era Nick Drake, while the title track marries an acoustic guitar pattern straight from Led Zeppelin 111 to a slightly psychedelic Janes Addiction-meets-Pearl Jam shuffle. Grehan’s voice initially sounds thin and austere but soon reveals a smoky warmth, especially on the minor key, key-board-enhanced Who You Gonna Run To. The refreshingly experimental arrangements, which include occasional electronic textures and treated drums, ensure the album never gets stale.
